The literary prize “Procida
Isola di Arturo - Elsa Morante”,
celebrated in the month of September, has
become one of the most sought-after literary
recognitions in Italy throughout the years,
and one of the Italian literary prizes with
the most national press coverage. Devoted
to the writer that set her story upon the
island, in one her best masterpieces, the
prize is divided into three award categories:
the fiction or poetry of an already famous
author award, fiction or poetry by unknown
authors award, and the translation award.
Over the years the jury has judged various
names of illustrious journalists and writers
such as Paulo Volponi, Domenico Rea, Fabrizia
Ramondino, Jean-Noel Schifano, Dacia Maraini,
Raffaele La Capria, Stenio Solinas, Marcello
Veneziani, and many others.

Among the winners of the last editions were
the writer Susanna Tamaro and the singer
Ligabue. In Procida this event, which has
its culmination point in the evening of
the awards, is divided into different artistic-cultural
initiatives that go on for around a week
before the final ceremony.
The “Procida Isola di Arturo - Elsa
Morante” prize is both of a high cultural
level and of ample public consent, refined
and popular, playful and intense, really
like the mythical literature of the writer
which inspired it and after which it is
named.
The history and work of Elsa Morante inspired
the Literary Park which is situated in the
former hotel “Eldorado” where
the unforgettable writer sojourned and wrote
her greatest masterpiece.
The Park's objective is to foster the “rediscovery”
of Procida using words and suggestions by
Morante.
